Akumal
Getting to Akumal is getting easier every year! Now there are choices:
- Take a taxi- reliable and you get it all to yourself ( about $120 USD one way )
- Take a shuttle van – it stops at various places but is on around $35 USD per person
- Rent a Car- If driving to Akumal, turn right at the intersection leaving the airport. ( South)
The highway renovation is now finished all the way to Akumal. When you get to Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, and Akumal, remember to slow down, there are speed bumps, and speed limits are enforced.
Once you see the sign for Akumal, you will pass an overhead pedestrian bridge. You will then drive by the main entrance to Akumal. The first sign after Akumal will say RETORNO, where you need to make a U-TURN to the left, and then back to the main entrance to Akumal. ( RETORNO means to RETURN)
Don’t be fooled by the confusing lanes painted on the highway, it is best to keep to the speed limit because the lanes are not well marked yet. Be especially careful at night.
Taxis and shuttle vans have booths at the airport and are well marked. You should book your rental car in advance with any major car rental company.
